Content
Publication — A container for a body of related content: one blog, one
magazine, one documentation site. Stored as a site.standard.publication record
in your Bluesky account. You can have many.
Document — One piece of writing — a title, optional summary and cover image,
optional tags, and the body content. Stored as a site.standard.document
record. Belongs to at most one Publication at a time.
Category — A named, ordered section within a Publication ("Essays", "Notes"). Every published Document sits in exactly one Category. Stored in the publication record; the AT Protocol records and Scribe CMS call it a Group.
Draft — A Document that isn't attached to any Publication. Only you can see it. Document lists mark it with a Standalone pill.
Published — A Document placed in a Category within a Publication. It has a public URL.
Embed — Something from elsewhere shown in a Document: a video, music, a code pen, a Bluesky post, or a preview card for a web page. Stored as a link marked with what it is, so anything that can't show it still shows the link.
Poster — What readers see in place of a video, music or code pen Embed until they click it: the thumbnail, the title and a Play button. Clicking loads the player.
Foreign Document — A Document in your Bluesky account that another app wrote (Leaflet, pckt, Offprint, WordPress, …). SkyScribe lists it under Foreign Documents on the Documents page and can import a copy of it, but never changes it.
Foreign Publication — A publication in your Bluesky account that another app wrote, such as a Leaflet blog. SkyScribe can import it as a new SkyScribe Publication with copies of its posts, but never changes it.
Original — The Foreign Document an imported Document was copied from. The copy remembers it, and you choose whether the original or the copy is the canonical URL.
Contributor — A credit on a single Document — a byline or role (author, photographer, …), added by whoever owns the Document. No access implications.
Collaborator — A person invited to submit Documents to a Publication. It's a standing relationship with an invite / accept / reject lifecycle. Publications you collaborate on are marked Collaborator in your lists; the ones you own are marked Owner.
Owner — The account a Publication belongs to. Only the owner can publish, unpublish and reorganise its Documents and Categories, change its settings, and invite Collaborators.
Identity
Handle — Your readable Bluesky username, e.g. alice.bsky.social. Can
change.
DID — Your permanent Bluesky identifier, e.g. did:plc:abc123. Never
changes, even if your handle does.
PDS (Personal Data Server) — The server that stores your Bluesky account's data, including all your SkyScribe content.
Websites and hosting
SkyScribe Site — A website SkyScribe designs, hosts, and runs for you,
served at your-name.skyscribe.site. Also called a Builder Site.
SDK-driven website — A website a developer builds themselves with the SkyScribe SDK, not via the site design wizard, showing a Publication's content. It needs coding, runs on any domain, and doesn't use a Site Slot. Developers: see the SkyScribe SDK docs.
Design Config — The saved record of a site's appearance — the template, colours, fonts, and layout choices you made in the design wizard.
Subscription — The one paid product. Your account is either FREE or PRO. A PRO subscription holds one or more Site Slots.
PRO — The name of the paid state. PRO + is just PRO with two or more Site Slots — not a separate plan.
Site Slot — One unit of hosting capacity on a subscription: one live site (one Design Config + one Publication). A subscription starts with one Slot per site you subscribed for; Add a SkyScribe Site adds more.
Cancelling — A subscription you've cancelled whose paid period hasn't ended yet. Everything carries on until then, and you can resume it.
Paused — A SkyScribe Site whose subscription has ended. Visitors see a notice instead of the site; it comes back as it was if you resubscribe within 12 months.
Site analytics — Approximate visit figures for a live SkyScribe Site (PRO) or a verified SDK-driven website (free): page views, visits, top pages, where readers came from. On the Publication's Insights tab. Counted without cookies, and shown only to the owner.
Site address — The address a SkyScribe Site is served at: its subdomain,
such as myblog.skyscribe.site, or its custom domain once it has one. Its Publication's address is what other apps link
to, so the two should match; a site's page warns you (Address mismatch)
when they don't.
Custom domain — A domain you own, such as www.example.com, connected to a
SkyScribe Site so it becomes the site's address. The site's skyscribe.site
address then redirects to it. See

Previous address — A site's subdomain before its latest rename. For 12 months it redirects every link to the same page at the new address, then it's released.
Reserved subdomain — A subdomain kept for you for 12 months after its site was removed or its subscription ended. Nobody else can take it; you can launch a site on it again.
Image Quota — Image Library storage, pooled across your whole subscription: 250 MB per Site Slot, plus a one-time 500 MB bonus once you reach two Slots.
Images
Image Library — The browsable collection of images you've uploaded, organised into folders. A PRO feature.
Variant — One of the fixed set of resized WebP copies made from each upload: 300, 600, 1200, 1800, and up to 3000 px on the longest edge. Sizes larger than the original are skipped.
Publication folder — An Image Library folder shared between a Publication's owner and its accepted Collaborators.
